Quito's Free Yoga in the Park

I ran across an interesting article dated Feb. 22nd, 2007 in the online version of one of Ecuador's major newspapers (HOY online) which reports that Bayardo Villarreal, a 65-year old architect in Quito, is leading free yoga sessions in the Parque Carolina in Quito every Saturday and Sunday. See link

According to the article Mr. Villarreal has been practicing yoga for 35 years after having studied with masters in India and Mexico. A quote from Maestro DeRose in the article might suggest that he has studied with teachers certified by the Universidade de Yôga founded by Maestro DeRose from Brazil. Since I am curious if any DeRose representatives are currently teaching in Ecuador I will make a point of visiting one of these classes on my next trip to Quito

The classes begin at 9:00 am in an open space near the parking lot adjacent to the Eloy Alfaro Avenue.

"Anyone can come if they wish,. Everything here is free and the best reward is a warm thank you," says Bayardo. "All those who come are over 50 years of age and are looking for tranquility and professional or familial harmony; there is no religion here."

In that case, I guess I'll be the youngest participant at a sprightly 48-years old!
